The Perfect Terrain for Horse Riding

Sredna Gora stands out as a smooth mountain terrain ideal for horse riding adventures in Bulgaria. Unlike rugged peaks, it offers gentle slopes and a level ridge perfect for good canters, providing a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the surrounding highest peaks—Rila, Pirin, Rhodope, and Balkan Mountains. This trail spans three days through the mountain and three days through the valley, allowing exploration of deep, ancient beech forests and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. Delightful canters amid rose gardens and encounters with free-roaming herds of cows in the valley enhance the overall experience. To partake in this ride, riders should possess intermediate to intermediate-plus skills, demonstrating strength, confidence, and proficiency across all paces, and endurance for extended canters over rough terrain.

Follow in the Hoofprints of Spartacus

Did you know that Spartacus was born in wat is called today Bulgaria? Spartacus was a Thracian gladiator who led a slave revolt with an army numbering in the tens of thousands. He defeated Roman forces over half a dozen times, marching his people up and down the Italian peninsula until he was killed in battle in April 71 B.C. Spartacus was an exceptional horseman and entered his final battle as a cavalryman.

Spartacus was born in Thrace, an area where the modern-day Balkans states are located. By birth, possibly from the Maedi tribe. The Maedi were a Thracian tribe in antiquity. In historic times, they occupied the area between Paionia and Thrace, on the southwestern fringes of Thrace, along the middle course of the Strymon, between the Kresna Gorge and the Rupel Pass—present-day southwestern Bulgaria.

Explore Bulgaria's Rich Heritage

Bulgaria has a fascinating and complex past that has been shaped by Greek, Latin, Slavic, Ottoman, Persian, and Soviet influences. You will find a nation that still has a strong heritage of traditional dance, music, costumes, and crafts, as well as 40,000 or so archaeological sites and cultural monuments. Visit Bulgaria and explore over 8,000 years of history. Since Bulgaria was established in 681 AD, it is the only country in Europe that hasn’t changed its name. One third of Bulgaria’s land is covered by forests. The Rose Valley is named after the growing of roses and production of rose oil—used in the making of most perfumes. Over 70% of the World’s rose oil is produced here.

Apparently, there are over 6,000 fortresses, fortified settlements, and castles in Bulgaria—enough to keep any visitor busy for a while!
